SHUSWAP SUMMER ATHLETICS INFORMATION… REVISED … Practices for Vball Begin Sept. 7th… Oops…

Nice to see lots people, athletes and parents, from Salmon Arm at the TRU vs Boise State men’s basketball game on Thursday night, in Kamloops, at the TCC. The gym was full with over 1000 fans in attendance and for an off-season, summer basketball game, it was really good basketball. Although Boise State won the game, as expected, 83-60, the TRU Team played extremely well. Considering Boise State defeated Trinity Western University 134-70 and the University of Fraser Valley 98-59, in their first two games of their BC road trip, the Wolfpack from TRU did very well. Those who were at the game, were able to see the physical height of the Boise State players and the size advantage over the TRU Wolfpack squad. For those who were at the game, #2 from Boise St, is expected to be drafted in the NBA and he scored 29 points in the game. I think it was a really good night of hoops.

To put it in perspective… the players from Boise State have been practicing hard all July and after their three game road trip to BC, the players get one week off before returning to the Boise State Campus to begin practices again. As for the WolfPack, their players have been training on their own since classes ended in April. The TRU players train five days per week, by getting in the gym, getting in the weight room and on the track. The team as a collective group had four practices, with their coach prior to Thursday’s game. TRU also played in the Dolphin Park Mens’/Semi-Pro Outdoor Basketball Tournament in Richmond the weekend before, and they are off to the huge KitsFest Mens’ Basketball Tournament in Vancouver this weekend. Even though it’s the off-season, players at that level - whether they are at Boise State or TRU - put a lot of time into their games to get better. So… if you have a dream to get to that level … now is the time to put extra time into your game. If you were to listen to all the stories that each of the players have from both teams, they would tell you that they put a lot of time into their games, getting better when they were young, and it started in middle school or younger.

Dream big and pursue your dreams; however, if your dreams are going to become a reality, one must set goals, develop the skills required to achieve one’s dreams, put a plan in place to practice those skills, and then execute the plan on a consistent, regular basis. Carpe Diem… Seize the Day… Every day.

August is upon us. Hoops Are Hot in the Shuswap Camp is full, I believe; however, there might be some wait list spots available. I hoop everyone, who is in town, is registered for the camp.

Synergy Basketball registration, for our Fall Session, will take place next Monday, August 14th (on-line). An email will be sent out to existing members and for those interested in joining can go to the salmonarmsynergybasketball.blogspot.com site for details, which will be updated later this week.
