VOLLEYBALL PRACTICES - FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL

 Please check the schedule that was sent home with your child at the end of June… If your child attended our early morning volleyball training sessions last spring, and they attended regularly, they would have received a calendar outlining the volleyball schedule for September, October, and November. 

Tentatively, our practice and training schedule for Gr. 7 & 8 Volleyball during week 1 involves the following days and times:

Wednesday, September 8, 2021 - Gr. 7 Girls’ & Boys’ Volleyball Practice/Tryouts … 2:45 PM to 4:15 PM

Thursday, September 9, 2021 - Gr. 7 Girls’ & Boys’ Volleyball Practice/Tryouts … 7:00 AM to 8:10 AM

Thursday, September 9, 2021 - Gr. 8 Girls’ & Boys’ Volleyball Practice/Tryouts … 2:45 PM to 4:15 PM

…Calendars for our 2021 Volleyball Season will be distributed at the first Practice/Tryout.

…Gr. 8 Volleyball takes place on Mondays (must be available from after school to late evening for Games/practices … Practices to start will be from 2:45 to 4:15), Tuesdays 2:45 to 4:15, and Thursdays 2:45 to 4:15.

…Gr. 7 Volleyball takes place on Tuesdays from 7:00 AM to 8:10 AM, Wednesdays (must be available from after school to 5:00 PM for Games… Practices will be from 2:45 to 4:15), and Thursdays from 7:00 AM to 8:10 AM. 

Gr. 6 Girls’ and Boys’ Volleyball will start Wednesday, September 22, from 2:45 to 4:15, September 24, from 7:00 AM to 8:10 AM, and September 27, from 7:00 AM to 8:10 AM. Gr. 6 Volleyball, for both Girls’ and Boys’ will be held on Mondays, from 7:00 AM to 8:10 AM, Wednesdays (2:45 to 4:15 - game-days could go until 5:00 PM), and Fridays, from 7:00 AM to 8:10 AM.

Cost for all Volleyball Programs this year has not yet been determined. Please stay tuned.

VOLLEYBALL CAMP AT SMS - MONDAY, AUG 23rd and TUESDAY, AUG 34th - CANCELLED

 Notice of Cancelation: 

 

To all who were planning on attending the Volleyball Camp at Shuswap Middle School tomorrow (Monday, Aug. 23, 2021) and Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2021, with deep regret, Mr. Henderson and I must cancel/postpone the camp due to the New Interior Health and Safety Guidelines, and Protocols imposed on Friday, August 20^th.  After reviewing and looking into the New Health and Safety Guidelines by Interior Health, we must follow the expectation that all indoor, high intensity sports and activities cease from being held at this time. With cases of the New Delta Variant increasing and spreading throughout the Region and here in Salmon Arm, Mr. Henderson and I are obligated to follow the New Health and Safety Guidelines.

 

Just this morning we spent two hours setting up the gym and finalizing our Camp Plan, activities, games and prizes, and we both were extremely excited to work with and coach our athletes over the next two days. I must say… we had a great plan! Although we are canceling what we both thought was going to be a fun and worthwhile event, we are hoping to offer our Volleyball Camp to everyone interested, in the near future; so, please stay tuned. For right now, Mr. Henderson and I are looking for more guidance as it pertains to sport, how it will look heading back to school, and what we are going to be willing to coach/offer in terms of athletics to our students. While we are both fully vaccinated, we are hesitant to jump right back into what was once normal; especially now, since the Delta Variant is more active in our Health Region, and since vaccination rates are so low.

Once again, we are sorry for canceling our Volleyball Camp. Thanks for your interest, commitment, and understanding.

NO OUTDOOR VOLLEYBALL THIS MORNING AT SMS - THURSDAY, AUGUST 19, 2021

 Sorry Everyone… I have a lot going on today; therefore, I won’t be able to facilitate the outdoor vball at SMS this morning. 

CAMP ON MONDAY AT SMS IS A GO… Great response yesterday… we will have both a high school division and a middle school division at camp. Numbers are good. Please continue to tell your teammates and friends to get the information out about our Volleyball Camp. Just so we can register/sign everyone up, and collect money, the side gym doors will be open at 8:30. Due to COVID-19 and the concerns in Interior Health, we will have safety protocols in place and all campers are expected to follow them please. 

1. When entering the gym:

• Please sanitize your hands
• Sign-in …. Name… phone # … email … 
• Participants are to a chair spaced around the gym to drop-off there belongings, then the participant can get a ball and warm-up on the court… 
• Please respect social distancing protocols and maintain a 2m distance 
• It is recommended that masks be worn upon entering the gym; however, when participants step onto the court, they can remove the mask for camp…
• Mr. Henderson and I will are fully vaccinated; however, we will be wearing a mask during the camp
• Participants will be asked to sanitize their hands frequently throughout the camp

2. What to bring:

• Good pair of indoor running shoes… preferably to change into
• Please arrive changed in shorts and t-shirts… the gym is extremely warm, so come prepared
• Water bottle
• Snacks - fruits, veggies, nuts, bars, etc…

3. The Camp:

• 1/3 individual skills - drills - games … 1/3 partner/group skills - drills - games … and 1/3 team skills - drills - games…
• 9 AM to Noon on Monday and Tuesday … next week … 23rd & 24th
• $35

Below is some information about our Summer Volleyball Camp that Mr. Henderson and I are hosting next Monday and Tuesday. Details are below. Today was the deadline to register, however, we are extending the deadline to contact me to tomorrow - Thursday, August 19, by 10:00 AM. Please email at hsmith@sd83.bc.ca and tell me your name and grade to let me know you are attending the camp. Participants pay their $35 camp fee at the door. 

Volleyball Camp at SMS - August 23 & 24… Camp is open to students in grades 7 to 12. Cost is $35.00. Please bring cash or a cheque (made out to Shuswap Middle School) on the first day of camp. All athletes who attend the camp will register on the first day of the camp (Monday, August 23)… please bring your BC Health Care #… Address… Postal Code…Email/phone # contact information. As of right now, we will be running all of our athletes together… Grades 7 & 8’s on one side of the gym and our 9 - 12’s on the other side of the gym; however, if numbers are high and there is a keen interest in the camp, Mr. Henderson and I will run two separate sessions. Plan A = All together and will run from 9:00 AM to Noon… Plan B (If numbers are high)  = Two separate sessions = Gr. 9 - 12 from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM and Gr. 7 & 8 from 12:30 to 3:30.

 Hey Everyone… I am typing this at 5:45 PM on Monday… and YIPPY … It’s RAINING… I LOVE IT!!! I am going to make the call now… There will be no Volleyball Tuesday Morning this week. Please check back Thursday morning to see if we go ahead then. 

REMINDER: Wednesday, August 18th (this week) is the final day to email me at hsmith@sd83.bc.ca to let me know if you are attending the SMS Volleyball Camp that Mr. Henderson and I are hosting. Please provide your name and grade, and let me know you are attending the two day camp, which is scheduled for next Monday and Tuesday (23rd/24th) from 9 AM to Noon both days. Cost is $35 … Cheers

THURSDAY, AUGUST 12, 2021 - SMS OUTDOOR VOLLEYBALL

   Outdoor Volleyball is a go at SMS. Again we will play from 8 AM to 9:30 AM. Please let your friends know and contact them. The more the better. The sky is blue and the weather looks good for today, and the wind gusts aren’t suppose to blow through until later this afternoon. 

REMINDER: Mr. Henderson and I are hosting a volleyball camp at SMS on August 23 & 24…

• Grades 7 - 12
• Cost is $35 … money will go towards SMS Athletics… Those SMS Students who attend the camp will not be charged the SMS Volleyball Team Fee in September.

• Two separate groups… Middle School Athletes on one side of the gym and High School Athletes on the other.

 Hey Everyone… Yes, volleyball will be happening at SMS this morning from 8AM to 9:30 AM. I hope people haven’t given up and are still checking the Blog… Always believe and never give up!
