AM SPORTS ACADEMY NEWS

OUTSTANDING PARTICIPATION!!! A LARGE NUMBER OF STUDENTS ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE EARLY MORNING GYM TIMES AVAILABLE AT SMS. THIS MORNING WE HAD TWENTY-FOUR STUDENTS IN GRADES 6 - 8 PLAYING 3 ON 3 VOLLEYBALL, OR 3 ON 3 AND 5 ON 5 BASKETBALL. DURING OUR SKILLS SESSIONS WE ARE GETTING 16 TO 20 STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN DRILLS AND MINI GAMES TO HELP DEVELOP THEIR VOLLEYBALL AND BASKETBALL SKILLS.
WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE MORE STUDENTS TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS GREAT OPPORTUNITY.

IMPORTANT GR. 6/7 BOYS' AND GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL INFO

We are still in the organization process for our Gr. 6/7 volleyball teams. Forms and information will go home next week. We have lots of student participating. Please remind your child that if he or she signed up he or she needs to attend practice in order to be on the team and/or play. Thanks for your patience.

GRADE 6/7 GIRLS' AND BOYS' VOLLEYBALL BEGINS THIS WEEK

SHUSWAP ATHLETICS IS IN NEED OF COACHES

Shuswap's Grade 8 Boys' and Grade 8 Girls' Volleyball Teams are in need of coaches this year (2018). If any parents and/or community members are interested in coaching one of the teams, please contact Aaron Smith at hsmith@sd83.bc.ca or at 250-832-6031. Our grade 8 volleyball teams play league games on Monday nights and practice two days per week. The season begins our second week back to school. Our athletic program is also in need of a Grade 8 Cross-country coach for the 2018 season. Once again, if a parent and/or community member is interested please contact Aaron Smith. We value our parent and community support.

PE COURSE OUTLINES AND SMS ATHLETICS

Please find all information regarding PE and SMS Athletics in the pages above. Any students planning to compete and play on our school teams must have both the SMS PE t-shirt and athletic shorts. The SMS PE gym strip is used as part of our uniforms in grade 6/7 for our school teams. As for our grade 8 athletic teams, the PE strip is used as part of our practice uniform. PE strip can be purchased through our office - $7 for a shirt and $13 for shorts. Students should write their name on the inside tags of both the shirt and shorts so we can get them back to their owner in case the PE strip is left in the change rooms or gym.
Gr. 8 volleyball, Gr. 8 Cross-Country Running, Gr. 6/7 volleyball, and Gr. 6/7 Rugby will begin the second week of school. Students need to always pay close attention to the announcements throughout each day.
Any students wanting to improve their basketball and volleyball skills are encouraged to sign-up for and participate in Shuswap's Sports AM Academy. Information on the program can be found in the above page.
