https://youtu.be/NKh-aAYI6oc   … This week’s Monday Mindset from Manu Watsa … Another fantastic message. I was always taught and coached as a young aspiring athlete… “What are you willing to give up?” … “What sacrifices are you willing to make in order to chase your dreams?” Without failure, those who make huge sacrifices to chase their dreams, open more doors and provide themselves greater opportunities in life. Now, Go Do the Work.

SMS ATHLETICS - SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES

“The best way to improve the Team is to improve yourself.”  ~ John Wooden

“Every off-season you look at what you can improve on. So you come in for the new season fresh and ready to go again.”  ~ Mason Mount

“Don’t be upset by he results you don’t get with the work you did’t do.”  ~ Unknown

We are heading into our second week of summer break and I hope everyone had a good week of summer their first week away from school. Are you putting time into your craft, building skill, and working on your physical literacy? Reminder, working out, training, preparing, and putting time into getting better can be done on your own, and it can also be done with friends. Putting time in, to get better, builds a unique culture of friendship and unites people in a special way. Creating a common sacrifice builds bonds that can be unbreakable and ignites a vision that could lead to incredible possibilities. Now, “Go Do the Work!”

Basketball Players … Check out … salmonarmsynergybasketball.blogspot.com … for information, drills, and motivation to help one become a better basketball player. Also, make the SMS Sport Courts your training ground, gathering place, and the venue you use to get better. If one puts in the time, they will be rewarded. Put in time together (Create and Develop “The Fist”) and you begin to galvanize a bond that can become unbreakable.

Volleyball Players … I have outdoor nets available … so contact me, if interested. Also, the Canoe Beach court looks good… Just saying.

SMS SUMMER ATHLETICS 2023 INFORMATION

HAPPY SUMMER EVERYONE … AND … HAPPY CANADA DAY LONG WEEKEND!!!

Below is this week’s Monday Mindset from Manu Watsa - CEO of Point Guard College (PGC). As a parent, teacher, and a coach, I have never liked this word. I can’t remember using “the word” as a kid; however, I hear it now and have heard it used way too often over the years. Spark your curiosity and let your curiosity open the doors to opportunities this summer. Find a small place with a wall to practice your volleyball, compete against the best basketball players in the world every day - all you need is a ball a hoop and your imagination, or tie a hoop/old bike tire to at soccer goal post and throw footballs into it. As a kid, while others were doing their thing, I was outside on the street or at the park on the chains, shooting hoops and playing agains Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, Gus Williams, or Downtown Freddy Brown, and sometimes I was them… and I was at the field everyday throwing a football at a hoop with a net on it. I had four footballs, an old ten speed tire with a net around it that my mom sewed to it, and I threw 150 to 300 passes a day into the tire because that’s what a coach at WSU told me to do, if I wanted to become a better quarterback. Being is a lonely existence, but so much fun and rewarding and if one wants to be good, they need to be willing to give up some things. Enjoy your summer and check out the video below.

I hope everyone’s summer has started off well… Although I got skunked for the first time at a lake I fished yesterday, I am sure fishing will improve. It was nice to venture into the mountains anyway… despite the slow action.

Obviously, No Open Gym Times this week… Please keep checking back for possible volleyball and basketball opportunities.

Basketball Opportunities in Town (SA) this summer:

1. Boise State Men’s Basketball Team will be visiting Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, on August 3rd, this summer. Again, being able to watch high level basketball, this close to home, is a fantastic opportunity for any young athletes who aspire to be basketball players. Click on the link below and click on the TICKETS ON SALE NOW to purchase tickets for the game. Tickets are selling fast. The Game is on August 3, 2023, at the TCC in Kamloops, at 6:00PM. 4. Parker Martens (former Kelowna Christian student/athlete and Edge Prep Athlete out of Calgary) is offering Training Sessions this summer on the SMS Sport Courts. I have a brochure outlining his information and details; however, I am unable to post it on this Blog. I can send it to you if you are interested… just email me at synergybasketball2014@gmail.com and I can send you his brochure… or contact Parker directly at parkermartens33@gmail.com …or Instagram - pxrkmartens … or Text him at (250) 575-1335… Parker has just signed with Simpson University, which is an NAIA School in California. I believe that having the opportunities to workout with college or university athletes is a great benefit for young athletes… The opportunity would be like a summer long camp and it is at home. If one can fit this opportunity into their summer, I strongly recommend taking advantage of the opportunity.

4. Volleyball… Contact me if you would like the use of one of our outdoor nets. I can lone them out to our athletes, if they would use them. I will post information next week, or just go to the TRU Athletic Website, or contact Chad Grimm directly.

Please keep checking back to this Blog on a weekly basis. I will updated it all summer long. Last minute information will also be posted here.

Enjoy the Shuswap Sun… Cheers
