SMS ATHLETICS … WEEK OF MAY 8TH TO 12TH

 EARLY MORNING VOLLEYBALL AND BASKETBALL TRAINING SESSIONS ARE BACK!!!

After a week break from AM Open Gym and Training Sessions, Mr. Henderson and Mr. Smith will be opening the SMS Gym once again in the mornings so that athletes can work on improving skills, increase physical literacy, and build confidence in the sports of volleyball and/or basketball. Again, if one wants to become a better basketball player, then one needs to work on their individual skills and put time in the gym, and if one wants to become a better volleyball player, then they need to do the same. The more purposeful time one puts into their craft, the more opportunities one has to improve skill and build confidence. Athletes have to be willing to “give-up stuff” in order to find the time to practice, train, and prepare. What are you willing to give-up to prepare and get better? Can you go to bed earlier so that you can get up earlier? How do you organize your day; especially, if your day involves a busy schedule… do you have a daily, weekly plan, and do you follow a schedule? Finally, what about school and homework (reading, re-reading, writing, re-writing, reviewing)… where does that fit into your schedule? Developing good study and work habits are essential for an athlete moving forward, and if they want to perform at their highest level, Athletes need to put in the work both in their sports and the classrooms. It’s not easy being an Student-Athlete and creating the “Magic” that’s possible takes a lot of sacrifice, commitment, and desire; however, when one commits to put in the work to build the mechanics (skills) and makes the sacrifices required, then discovering and seeing what’s possible can be achieved.
