Players and Parents… Our Grade 8 Girls Volleyball Team is hosting Kings Christian tomorrow after school… Our Girl’s Team will divided into two teams and will play at 2:55 against each other … While that game is going on, our Gr. 8 Boys can play against each other (if there are enough guys). Kings is scheduled to arrive around 3:30 … One of our Girls’ Teams will play Kings at 3:45ish (2 games) then our other team will play Kings right after (2 games). Kings is hoping to bring their Grade 9 girls as well. If so, our girls will play them as well. Lots of volleyball opportunities. If we have enough boys, we will get the Gr. 8 Boys playing our Girls and the Kings Gr. 9’s … Our other Gr. 8 Girls’ Team will play the Kings Gr. 8 Girls. Games will run from 2:50 to 4:50. After clean-up we will be out of the gym before 5:00. I hope you daughter/son can make it.
**** Also… the TRU Women’s Volleyball Team is hosting a tournament at the TCC this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, in Kamloops. I will post game times tomorrow for Saturday and Sunday. If you are in Kamloops … shopping/hanging out… you might want to check out the TRU Volleyball Action. It’s GREAT Volleyball. My wife and I use to take our sons to both TRU and UBCO often when they were elementary, middle school and high school to watch both basketball and volleyball games. They loved the games and atmosphere and use to dream about attending university and playing. Our oldest son manifested his current reality/life when he was younger… he always saw himself attending TRU, going to school and wearing a WolfPack Basketball Uniform… Dreams start young… Check the games out if you can fit it into your schedule. ***Please Note: We do not make cuts at SMS on any of our Athletic Teams. Instead, we will create the best opportunities to suite our athletes’ in terms of their skills, physical literacy, level of play, and experience. Depending on how our League structures games, divisions, and game play, will determine how we structure our own teams at SMS. Teaching the game, developing our athletes, providing good experiences for all involved, and providing sound competitive opportunities for everyone is our focus at SMS.
***Reminder … Athletes choosing to compete on and be a part of our Volleyball Teams at SMS, must be able to commit to the practice and game schedule.

Season Practice Schedule for Gr. 8 Girl’s and Boy’s Volleyball…. Mondays from 2:45 to 4:15 Girls’ and Boys’ will practice together (until games start). Tuesdays from 2:40 to 4:15. … ***Girls and Boys Teams will practice together Wednesday LUNCH HOUR … Beginning of Eating Time to the End of Activity Time… Thursdays from 2:40 to 4:00 … ***Girls and Boys Teams will practice together
***Please note… Gr. 8 Volleyball games are on Mondays. Games are played in Revelstoke to Vernon and games nights can be very late - sometimes players are arriving home after 8:30PM.
AM OPEN GYM OPPORTUNITIES:
***If one wants to get better, then one cannot ignore Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000 Hour Rule… If our SMS Volleyball Athlete wants to get better at volleyball, then they need to put time into their craft… developing and working on skills, increasing their knowledge of the game itself, increasing their game play and tactical strategies, and practice… practice… practice… The more touches, the better. The more one is in the gym or at home working on their game, the better their skills will get and the more their skills improve the more confidence they will develop. So… by attending AM Open Gym, one could get more touches, work on improving their skills, and get better at the game of volleyball.
AM Volleyball Open Gym Times and Days:
Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday Mornings … from 7:00AM to 8:10AM … The Side Gym Doors located at the Southwest Corner of our Gym/School, will be open at 6:55 each morning… Athletes are expected to change into proper gym strip and wear proper indoor gym/court/volleyball running shoes. NOTE: All Athletes are expected to help clean up at the end of each Open Gym Session.
An Information Package will be sent home with each Athlete on Monday, September 11, 2023. A Team Fee has yet to be determined. The Team Fee is used to cover referee costs, coaches travel and expenses, equipment and uniform replacement, and team swag. If an Athlete is unable to pay the Team Fee due to financial reasons, please contact Mr. Smith or our Administration. No student will be excluded from participating in our Shuswap Middle School Athletic Program for financial reasons.
