Video #1: “Three Things to Remember During Uncertain Times” ... https://youtu.be/2hJOvVs9ZBk
(PGC Basketball. “3 Things to Remember in Times of Uncertainty.” Online Video Clip. YouTube. YouTube. Mar. 14, 2020. April 7, 2020).
Point Guard College (PGC) is the #1 basketball training program in North America and for the past five years, I have been using and referring to PGC as a source of reference when it comes to drills, skills, and better coaching practices in the game of basketball. Even though the PGC videos I use to help teach our athletes form a reference around the game of basketball, PGC’s lessons, teachings, values and standards transcend across all sports and life for that matter. In the attached video above, Mano Watsa (President of PGC) presents three (3) strategies all people in society can use to help an individual navigate daily life through our difficult, confusing, and troubling time. “Stay Poised, stay Present, stay Positive during these uncertain times!”

Video #2: “5 Ways to Build Mental Toughness” ... https://youtu.be/1zJ6QOqOwk8
(PGC Basketball. “5 Ways to Build Mental Toughness.” Online Video Clip. YouTube. YouTube. Dec. 10, 2016. April 7, 2020).
Mano Watsa (President of PGC) presents 5 ways to build mental toughness in the video above. To make a “Habit” a part of one’s daily life/routine, one has to practice that habit with conscious effort and consistently, every day, for 30 days straight. PGC teaches all of their athletes how to develop mental toughness by doing the 5 things in the video. These 5 individual habits are the factors that lead to one becoming tougher, more resilient and able to handle life’s difficult obstacles. Learning to become “tough” mentally, emotionally, and physically are the threads that help build the tapestry that PGC tries to create. These same practices and principles are the threads/ideas we have used and are still using here in Salmon Arm, whether it is at our middle school basketball program, or our Club Synergy Basketball Program in the Community. See if you can practice and carry out these five habits for the next 30 days. Know... you can’t skip one. You must carry out and follow each habit daily, for 30 days straight. If you miss a day, start all over again. CHALLENGE #2: Who can make these 5 habits a part of their daily life for the next 30 days?

Video #3: “Two Minutes With TK #1 - Magic” ... https://youtu.be/hJe8sx94q8U
(Focus 3. “Two Minutes With TK #1 - Magic.” Online Video Clip. YouTube. YouTube. Jan. 8, 2019. April 7, 2020).
Near the end of our Middle School Basketball season and in some of our PE classes at SMS, I talked about the idea/concept of trying to, or striving to create “Magic” in ones life, or in one’s performance of a skill and/or in a particular sport. The idea behind this concept of creating “Magic” is to take something in athletics that you like to do and create “Magic.” Understanding that anyone can create magic, knowing full well that in order to do so, it takes countless hours of practicing and performing, constant repetition, and most importantly ... discipline. When one puts in the time, commitment, concentration and discipline, over time, one could create magic in their craft. In the athletic world, one can create magic by putting the same effort, commitment, concentration, and discipline into a skill in order to create “Magic.” Take the jumpshot in basketball, one doesn’t become a great shooter unless they put in the work and effort while concentrating, committing, and disciplining themselves consistently over a long period of time to develop their shot. Proper form, technique and execution of  any skill is required. Whether it’s the shot, the pass, the dribble, or defense, “Magic can be created by anyone, if they put purposeful and committed effort into their work. Tim Kight is the Founder of Focus 3, which is a company that teaches leadership, culture, and behavior to organizations, companies and individuals. I have used Focus 3 and their teachings for several years now in my own teaching and coaching. Focus 3’s values, beliefs and teachings are powerful and lead to positive results. In this video, Tim Kight presents the concept of creating “Magic” in any area of our lives. He teaches us that if you are willing to do the work, to build the mechanics, that produces the outcome, you can create “Magic” in anything you do. Watch the video, apply the principles, then go do the work!
